The MacArthur Sewer Project continue with ongoing night work between Von Karman Ave. and Birch St. on MacArthur Blvd. Construction is on track, and the entire project is set to wrap up by Fall 2024*.

  • Work Happening: Excavation along the center median area followed by pipe installation.
  • Where: MacArthur Boulevard between Von Karman Avenue and Birch Street
  • When: Currently ongoing – End of Summer 2024*
  • Work Hours: Sunday – Thursday, Nightwork; 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Impacts:
    • Reduced travel lanes and turns on MacArthur Boulevard, with at least one lane of travel in each direction.
    • No median access.
    • Increased noise due to construction activity.
    • Roadway will return to normal during non-work hours (daytime).

*All dates and times are subject to change due to operational factors or inclement weather.

Project Benefits:

  • This project will replace aging sewer infrastructure originally constructed in 1960.
  • The new force mains will enhance the reliability and efficiency of the sewer system.
  • Improved operation and maintenance safety will be achieved.

Project Description

The OC San MacArthur Sewer Improvements Project will construct two new pressurized sewer pipelines, or force mains, along 1/3-mile of right-of-way on MacArthur Blvd. in the City of Newport Beach. Additionally, this Project will abandon about 1/2-mile of pipe that is no longer needed and modify an existing access structure located at the intersection of Birch Street and MacArthur Blvd. Work will also occur at the OC San MacArthur Pump Station. Construction is slated to take approximately one year to complete.
